Without exception all people will experience periods of emotional distress in their lifetimes. Life is not always predictable or controllable and sometimes we find ourselves struggling to make sense of it all. Some events that may happen in life are beyond our understanding or comprehension: The death of someone close, abuse, abandonment, trauma, illness or accidents. Many situations in life can create a sense of hopelessness and helplessness.
Emotional distress comes in many forms. Some people experience persistent stress or worry that can lead to difficulties with concentrating or sleeping, low mood, anxiety and panic attacks. We may not know what is happening to us, which can be very frightening.
